The on-ear gaming headset boasts a 40-foot range, 10-hour battery life, a noise-cancelling microphone, and compatibility with PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4. Gamecom 818 Replacement Usb Dongle Series As WellThe headset offers stereo sound only and not Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound or other virtual surround capability features that are common on other similarly priced wireless gaming headsets such as Plantronics other headsets like the RIG series as well as the Corsair H2100 and the Creative SoundBlaster Tactic3D Rage V2.0. The headset remains functional when charging via its included mini USB cable. Gamecom 818 Replacement Usb Dongle Software Control PanelHowever, Plantronics doesnt offer a software control panel for the headset, which means EQ, virtual surround, and other software-based adjustments require third-party programs. However, the Santa Cruz based company did not include a mute button, which would have been appreciated. The collapsible, noise-cancelling microphone features the GameCom logo in light gray on its base. The headsets power button also lives on the left ear, while the mini USB connection is neatly tucked away on its bottom edge. Its cranial stability came in handy during gaming sessions when I took a break from baddie-killing for beverage-refilling. The plush, velvet ear cups look comfortable and they should have been but they just werent. The headset pinched and caused acute pain to both ears, even after hours of use when the headset should have been broken in. The headband, however, did not cause any discomfort on the top of the head. Gamers with differences in any of those categories might experience the GameCom 818 differently. But my head and ears did not take kindly this wireless headset. Gamecom 818 Replacement Usb Dongle Drivers Flawlessly CrankedThe 40 millimeter drivers flawlessly cranked out, rich, bass-heavy sound, which never popped, cracked, or dropped out once even when connecting and disconnecting the headset from the USB cable. The excess bass can cause noticeable low frequency distortion, which could be solved with a software equalizer had Plantronics included one with the headset. Thankfully third-party software such as Razers Surround Pro works flawlessly with the GameCom 818. Neither the type nor level of the tone can be adjusted, so I found myself reaching for the keyboards volume controls instead. The headsets battery stayed alive during the longest non-stop session I could throw at it, which was around six hours four hours shy of the headsets spec. But its lack of Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound, missing software control panel, and abysmal comfort make it difficult to recommend. But it cant compete feature-wise with similarly priced wireless gaming headsets that offer Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound and a software control panel.
